Poll: Should we ban fur farming in Ireland?

Simon Coveney told us this week that although he doesn’t like the industry, he believes regulating it is the way to go. But do you think fur farms should be closed down?

IN AN INTERVIEW with TheJournal.ie this week, Minister Simon Coveney explained his reasoning behind the decision not to ban fur farming in Ireland, despite the fact that he dislikes the industry.

Although Coveney has problems with the farming from an animal welfare perspective, he said that strongly regulating the five farms we have in the country was a better way to go. He argued that the business would simply go elsewhere, and possibly to countries with low levels of regulation.

However animal rights groups are still calling for a ban on the practice, with an estimated 225,000 animals killed each year in the five farms in Ireland.

But we want to know what you think: Should we ban  fur farming in Ireland?

Poll Results:

Yes (10919)
No (2077)
I'm not sure (667)
